mamanatural.com Mike and I are avid travelers and having a baby doesn't have to stop us from continuing this great love of ours. We've already taken Griffin on three airplane trips in his young 6 month-old life. While traveling with little ones takes a little more planning and patience, it can be done. Here are the top tips for traveling with babies that I've learned along the way. 1. Book flights outside of the "witching hour." With young babies, the later the date, the more fussy they become. I learned the hard way not to book a flight in the 3 to 7 pm window. It is much easier to take morning flights because babies are better rested, happier and therefore more adaptable. 2. Reserve a window seat. This gives you privacy for nursing or feeding and contains a "wall" (the window) to lean against which helps with a squirmy baby. You are also in charge of the amount of light coming in through window shade, which helps when trying to get a baby to nap. An added bonus, some babies also like to look out windows... a nice diversion! 3. Go to gate early and see if you can be seated next to an empty seat. If the plane isn't full, most airline attendants will let you move to a seat next to an empty seat. This is a HUGE score. We brought Griffin's car seat onboard and strapped him in the empty seat between Mike and I. He fell asleep easily because he's in his own space and familiar with being in there for naps. 4. Bring a travel companion. If possible, be sure a husband, companion ...

or how about the easiest tip DONT BRING THE ANIMAL ON THE PLANE AT ALL
lets see my mom took me to disneyworld. It was my first time on a plane and I was 9 at the time
If you read the carriers it says not to use on an airplane, I’m not sure if it’s referring to take off and landing either. We’ll be taking the Ergo for our 1yr old, but I’m pretty sure it will only be used to get to the gate.
This will be our first trip with our son.
@CrazyLeoMom I find that it helps to sit in the backseat after a few hours to keep the baby entertained or soothed. Good luck! Kudos to you with cloth diapering on vaca
. XO.
We haven’t done any traveling yet, but we usually don’t do planes. We have 2 very long car trips coming up (one 15 hours and then 2 weeks later one that’s 8 hours) and I am a little nervous about how our 8 month old will do. Hopefully she’ll sleep some. My son never went on long car trips as a baby so this is a new avenue for me. Not many road trip videos, so maybe I should catalog our experiences. It will also be our 1st time cloth diapering on vacation. EEK! Here’s to hoping all goes well!
when i travel i leave my baby girl with mommy , but one time i travel with her , it was fun and there was cry moment , but i give her prastmol and she slipt and wake up fresh
I took my baby girl from Tennessee to Utah when she was 7 months old, and I don’t think I could have done it any earlier than that and had both of us kept our sanity. She was awesome, though! Your tips are right on. I just nursed her every time we took off and every time we landed and she didn’t fuss at all! It was great only having one leg on the way there, but on the way back, there were 3 legs (ugh!), the last one being an only 45 minute flight, but it was by far the worst one.
i took my son for his first plane ride when he was 5 months old and i am planning a grayhound trip to the grand canyon next month and he will be almost 3 years old.
Put the baby in the luggage bag, job done.
@pokelover66544 Aw, thanks
.
@MamaNaturalBlog I had to travel with my daughter jessica at 10 days across country flight then london to LA for a family funeral, it is tough but she did good, I kept her carseat with me and sang to her while nursing and kept her as calm as I could, shes now 6 months old and im 22 weeks pregnant with my second baby
your son is so cute
@mommyholic Ugh, diaper changes are hard. We did it in the airplane bathroom. You can close up toliet and put diaper changing pad down and try there. Not ideal but works. You can also do at your seat if it’s just a number 1 and you have empty seats around you. Good luck!
We’re traveling cross country in a couple months… my baby will be just over 1 year. I’d also love to hear about changing diapers on the plane if you have any tips! Thanks!
@LuvZippy Aw, thanks!
Your baby is adorable
Here’ my travel tip: Don’t travel with a BABY!!!!
Geez…. you are a hot!
@latitiko Hi! We brought ours to the gate since it was part of our stroller. (We checked the base) If yours isn’t, then I would check it unless you can bring on the plane with you and put in an extra seat. (Airlines will sometimes let you do this if they have an extra seat available.) This is super ideal because then baby has his/her own space. We didn’t bring a bag to put in as the airlines usually put in a large plastic bag for you. Hope this helps!
Hi mamanatural, I plan on plain traveling with my baby once he is around 3 months old. I need to bring my infant car seat with me and I don’t know how should i bring it. Should I check in the car seat or bring it to me to the gate and also do you know of what kind of bag should fit a car seat like this (like a check in bag?).. TIA for yous answer..
@RhinoSanderson I assume you don’t have children.
any tips for changing diapers on a plane? thanks!
@amygirl1983
No, actually I am a very nice guy. A working professional tech who spends LOTS of time flying LONG flights between cities on the opposite side of the country. Out of the last 12 flights I was on, 10 of them had a wailing brat somewhere on the flight. On a 4 hour flight, and having to hear a kid scream for 2-3 (sometimes more) hours of that flight, you can’t blame me for wanting to turn around and strangling them
Airline travel is stressful and uncomfortable enough as it is.
@RhinoSanderson
you’re a jerk.
@gunesgun Oh, good luck! Remember, it will be over soon
